FC Bayern Munich produced a stunning fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Kosner Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz 96-89 on Wednesday night, with Andreas Obst delivering a career performance at SAP Garden.
The German side erased a 12-point deficit in the final period as Obst poured in a personal-best 37 points, leading Bayern to a second straight EuroLeague win after enduring nine consecutive defeats.
Bayern trailed 38-46 at halftime and appeared on the ropes late in the third quarter, when Baskonia turned a five-point deficit into a commanding 60-69 lead behind a balanced offensive display.
The visitors extended that advantage to 60-72 early in the fourth, with Matteo Spagnolo, Rodions Kurucs, and Eugene Omoruyi controlling the tempo and putting Bayern under sustained pressure.
Obst kept the hosts afloat during that stretch, scoring from deep and off the dribble as Bayern searched for a defensive spark.
That spark arrived midway through the fourth quarter, when the home side shifted momentum with a surge fueled by stops and quick conversions.
Bayern dominated the final period 36-20, highlighted by an 11-0 run that erased the deficit and swung control firmly back to the hosts.
Obst finished the night shooting 13-of-18 from the field and 7-of-11 from three-point range, while also setting a career-high PIR of 38.
Justinian Jessup added 17 points, including several key baskets down the stretch, and Isiaha Mike contributed 13 points and seven rebounds as Bayern found extra gears late.
Baskonia, which dropped its fourth straight game, received 20 points from Spagnolo, with Kurucs and Omoruyi scoring 13 apiece, but struggled to contain Bayern’s perimeter shooting late.
The Spanish club was also shorthanded, missing injured scorers Marcus Howard and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, a gap that widened as Bayern caught fire from outside.
The victory lifted Bayern to 7-13 and completed a measure of revenge after a 95-73 loss in Vitoria earlier this season, while Baskonia fell to 6-14.
Bayern will now travel to face Olympiacos Piraeus on Friday, with Baskonia returning home to host LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne the same night.
