Karl-Anthony Towns highlighted the importance of matching Orlando’s physicality after the New York Knicks’ 132–120 NBA Cup semifinal victory on Saturday.

“When you’re playing a great team… you got to either match it or exceed it,” Towns said, emphasizing the need to control pace and limit fast-break points.

Towns credited New York’s collective execution in both offense and defense. “I thought we did a great job tonight… causing turnovers, utilizing transition points, and when they got on their runs, we minimized the bleeding,” he said.

The center acknowledged his defensive role, noting that impacting winning is his priority. “I’m happy that tonight… I was able to do that and to win a game… with this group of guys in this locker room is a tremendous honor,” Towns said.

Towns praised coach Mike Brown’s influence on the team’s development. “Very personable guy… with his new offensive defensive system we’re all adjusting,” he said, crediting the staff and players for balancing learning with winning.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s NBA Cup final against San Antonio, Towns compared the tournament environment to the playoffs. “It’s a playoff atmosphere… with money on the line and pride on the line… it’s bringing out the best of NBA teams,” he said.

On playing in Las Vegas for the first time, Towns called T-Mobile Arena a “magical place” and expressed excitement about participating in NBA Cup history. “To be part of the history of T-Mobile Arena with the NBA Cup… is an honor,” he said.

Towns also highlighted the importance of contributions from the bench. “Tyler Kolek, Mitch, JC, Guersch… those guys, especially Tyler, changed the game,” he said, noting that their energy and impact were pivotal despite limited minutes.

The Knicks relied heavily on starters for scoring, but Towns underscored that team depth was critical. “That 10% from the bench really changed the game,” he said, pointing to the balance between veteran production and youthful energy.
