Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown described the 2025 training camp as the most physically demanding preseason of his career. Brown said the intensity and pace of practice have been a significant step up from previous years.
“I think this has probably been my hardest preseason from a conditioning and physicality standpoint,” Brown told reporters. He emphasized the importance of combining speed with smart decision-making on the court.
Brown highlighted the team’s focus on fast-paced play while maintaining strong habits. “We want to play with tempo but also know what we’re doing when we’re playing at that pace,” he said, stressing the need for quick reactions and correct reads in transition.
The Celtics guard also pointed to leadership adjustments he has made this season. Brown said he has been more vocal in guiding teammates on offense and defense. “Just setting the tone, kind of like commanding the troops… letting people know where to go on defense and offense,” he explained.
With roster changes and new players adjusting to Boston’s system, Brown stressed the importance of building chemistry quickly. He noted that experience helps timing, but younger players need reps to adapt. “We’re really trying to speed up the learning curve and develop,” he said.
Brown also addressed the defensive emphasis of the team. He noted film study and situational awareness as critical components for becoming a smart, disciplined squad. “We want to be the smartest team out there… watching film, making sure everybody knows coverages and reads,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Brown remains confident in the Celtics’ preparation. He believes that by combining speed, intensity, and accountability, the team can establish a competitive edge. “We got some new guys, a lot of opportunity in front of us, so I’m excited about that,” he added.
As the Celtics gear up for their preseason opener against Memphis, Brown hopes to set the tone early. He emphasized a full-effort approach from day one. “We don’t want to ease into the season. From the first preseason game, let’s get right to it,” he said.
