Quinn Cook shared his experience playing for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2020 NBA Bubble, calling it “like a grown-up AAU Tournament/Camp.” He described the team as exceptionally close, emphasizing that the players spent nearly all their time together during the quarantine environment.
Cook said the team’s unity made the championship feel unique. “We literally did everything together… nine of us, five of us, or ten of us,” he explained to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson. He added that the memories of that season will last forever.
When asked whether the bubble title will receive full recognition in the future, Cook offered a historical perspective. “I’m a basketball historian… people will appreciate it,” he said, noting that other early NBA championships, like the Spurs’ first in 1999, are respected despite being overshadowed at the time.
Cook highlighted that the bubble presented unusual circumstances but also fostered resilience and camaraderie. The Lakers navigated isolation, daily testing, and constant restrictions to ultimately win the NBA Finals in Orlando, Florida.
He pointed out that fans and analysts might still debate the legitimacy of the 2020 title, but history will show its significance. “To be a champion out of those circumstances will definitely live forever,” he added.
