Cole Anthony described his move to the Milwaukee Bucks as a “breath of fresh air” after spending five seasons with the Orlando Magic, Eric Nehm reported for The Athletic. The guard said he is eager to embrace a new chapter in his career with a team that carries championship expectations.
Anthony was included in a trade package from the Magic to acquire Desmond Bane, along with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and multiple future first-round picks. He reached a buyout agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies and was subsequently signed by the Bucks on July 16.
“I just want to come in and help the team win in whichever way I can,” Anthony said. “I think they’re going to ask me to do what I can do, which is score, pass the ball, guard, whatever, but I’m just really happy to be a part of this team.”
The 6-foot-2 guard highlighted the professional environment he has found in Milwaukee. “The energy is high. There’s a real professional vibe around everybody, and everybody has a chip on their shoulder,” Anthony added, reflecting on his first few weeks with the Bucks.
Anthony was drafted 15th overall by Orlando in 2020 and averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists over five seasons. He shot 41.9% from the field and 34.5% from three-point range while developing into a versatile scorer and playmaker.
Despite his strong connection to Orlando, Anthony described the trade as bittersweet. He recalled learning about the deal from Magic president Jeff Weltman and said, “I’ve been here five years, haven’t played for another team, was drafted here, so it’s something for me that definitely is bittersweet and I’m going to miss it.”
Milwaukee, the 2021 NBA champions, is looking to make another deep playoff run after a first-round exit last season. Anthony views his addition as an opportunity to contribute immediately alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and the team’s veteran core.
“I look at it as a great opportunity to enter another team where they have a playoff pedigree and a championship pedigree,” Anthony said. “I just want to get in there, contribute and do whatever I can for the team. I want to be a part of winning.”
