Italian fashion legend Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91, the Armani Group confirmed in an official announcement on Thursday.
Widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in global fashion, Armani was known for shaping a uniquely Italian aesthetic that defined elegance and minimalism.
His designs not only transformed wardrobes worldwide but also redefined Hollywood glamour, taking red carpet fashion to new heights.
Beyond clothing, Armani also left a lasting mark on sports. In 2008, he acquired the historic Olimpia Milano Basketball Club from Giorgio Corbelli, becoming the team’s sole owner.
His investment and leadership were pivotal in modernizing the club’s structure and guiding it into the EuroLeague era, ensuring its relevance at the highest levels of European basketball.
Following news of his death, EuroLeague clubs across the continent shared their condolences on social media.
“Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones,” read the Armani Group’s statement. The tribute described him as “a tireless driving force.”
His family and colleagues also released a heartfelt message through the company: “In this company, we have always felt like part of a family. Today, with deep emotion, we feel the void left by the one who founded and nurtured this family with vision, passion, and dedication. But it is precisely in his spirit that we, the employees and the family members who have always worked alongside Mr. Armani, commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility, and love.”
