Luka Doncic has surpassed LeBron James in the NBA 2K26 preseason ratings, marking the first time the veteran forward has trailed a teammate in the popular video game series.
According to Basketball Forever, Doncic received a 95 overall rating, while James came in at 94. The update highlights the shift in dynamics for the Los Angeles Lakers, who now feature two of the top-rated players in the league.
Doncic’s attributes emphasize his offensive skill set. He earned standout marks in passing, layups, stamina, and offensive consistency, with several categories graded at 98. His playmaking rating hit 94, with 98 in pass accuracy and 95 in ball handling, underscoring his reputation as one of the NBA’s most creative facilitators.
James, now set to enter his 23rd season, still secured elite scores across multiple areas. He graded at 92 in athleticism, 99 in stamina, and 97 in durability, reflecting his sustained production deep into his career. His finishing ability remained among the highest in the game, with a 98 layup and 89 driving dunk.
The comparison is notable given James’ historic dominance in NBA 2K ratings since entering the league in 2003. For more than two decades, he consistently ranked near the top, often holding the highest rating in the game.
Doncic’s rise comes after a season split between the Dallas Mavericks and Lakers, where he averaged over 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists per game. His strong playoff showing with Los Angeles further reinforced his status as one of the league’s premier stars.
James, meanwhile, continues to post efficient numbers, recording 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists during the 2024-25 season. His longevity and consistency remain unmatched, with career averages of 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists across 1,562 regular-season games.
Despite the one-point gap in ratings, both players remain among the most dominant figures in NBA 2K26. The Lakers now hold a rare distinction: a roster featuring two players rated above 94 overall, setting them apart in virtual competition as well as on the court.
