When Denver Nuggets acquired Jonas Valanciunas from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Dario Saric on July 1, it was seen as a calculated move to bolster their bench behind Nikola Jokic.

However, complications arose when rumors began circulating that Valanciunas was eyeing a move to Europe.

Denver, however, had no intention of letting him go.

General manager Ben Tenzer revealed that the organization had “great conversations” with the Lithuanian big man and emphasized that he was excited to be part of the team’s plans.

The trade was finalized on July 13, despite uncertainty surrounding Valanciunas’ status.

The Nuggets refused to entertain a buyout and made it clear they expected him to play. His public comments this week confirm that he intends to do exactly that.
