The Utah Jazz have added former St. John’s standout RJ Luis on a two-year, two-way deal following the 2025 NBA Draft.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the 22-year-old guard joins the organization after going undrafted last month. League sources confirmed the signing to Scotto on Tuesday.
Luis is coming off a breakout junior season with the Red Storm, where he averaged 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.4 steals across 35 games. He was named Big East Player of the Year and earned consensus second-team All-American honors.
Before arriving at St. John’s, Luis played his freshman year at UMass, where he posted 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game and made the Atlantic 10 All-Freshman Team. He transferred to the Red Storm in 2023.
During his time under head coach Rick Pitino, Luis emerged as one of the top two-way wings in college basketball. Despite dealing with a hand injury during the 2023–24 season, he bounced back in 2024–25 to lead St. John’s to the Big East title.
Luis recorded several marquee performances this past season, including 21 points and 14 rebounds in a February 16 win over then-No. 24 Creighton. He also scored 21 points in a key March 1 victory over Seton Hall to help secure the regular season championship.
The 6-foot-7 guard from Mt. Zion Prep Academy in Maryland brings athleticism, shot creation, and defensive versatility to the Jazz. He also won the Haggerty Award, given annually to the best men’s Division I player in the New York City area.
With his new two-way deal, Luis will split time between the Jazz and the Salt Lake City Stars, Utah’s G League affiliate. Two-way players can spend up to 50 games with their NBA team during the regular season under the current CBA rules.
