Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly taking a patient and open-minded approach to his future with the Milwaukee Bucks, choosing to focus on how the organization handles this offseason before making any decisions about his long-term plans.

On The Pat McAfee Show, NBA insider Shams Charania explained:

“His future is not going to be tied to the draft. His future is not going to be tied to free agency. This is a player who is at the peak of his powers. He is in the prime of his career. He is going to be able to dictate when and where, if there is movement in his career, when he wants that to be.”

According to Charania, Giannis is prioritizing how the Bucks perform over the coming weeks:

“My understanding is [he’s] giving the Bucks every opportunity in this offseason. We have this draft period here. We have free agency period coming up next week. We have trade period coming up during all of that. We have summer league coming up. What can the Bucks do to elevate this team and surround Giannis Antetokounmpo with the players?”

Charania emphasized the mutual respect between Giannis and the Bucks franchise:

“He’s been there 12 years. I think he owes them that. They owe him that. I expect that’s all will be the focus for the next several weeks.”

Antetokounmpo has played 12 seasons for the Bucks. He has averaged 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 859 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 8 All-Star games.

He has won 1 Most Improved Player award, 1 Defensive Player of the Year award, 2 MVP awards, 1 Finals MVP award, and 1 NBA championship.
