The Golden State Warriors have converted Braxton Key’s contract to a standard NBA deal, as confirmed by NBA insider Michael Scotto. Key, 28, joined the Warriors on a two-way contract earlier this season and has now earned a full roster spot.
Key’s performance in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors and San Diego Clippers played a key role in his promotion. He averaged 16.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.6 steals, and 1.1 blocks in the G League. His field goal percentage of 50.6% added to his appeal as a versatile forward.
Since joining the Warriors in early March, Key has appeared in three games. He has averaged 1 point in 3.7 minutes per game.
Key’s career in the NBA has seen him play for four teams. Over the course of 37 games, he has averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.5 minutes per game. His recent promotion with the Warriors is an opportunity to contribute more to the team as the season progresses.
The Warriors, finished the regular season with a 48-34 record in the Western Conference and will host the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday in the Play-In Tournament with the winner claiming No. 7 seed in the playoffs.
