Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown opened up about on-court trash talk during an appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast.
The four-time All-Star revealed that most players in the NBA don’t talk trash to him — with one notable exception.
“Nobody really talks trash,” Brown said, via HoopsHype. “The only person that really be trying to do like weird stuff and talk trash is Dillon Brooks.”
According to Brown, the Houston Rockets wing uses trash talk as part of his strategy to stay relevant in the league.
“That’s just his gimmick, though,” the Celtics star continued. “Some players — you know — they do whatever they need to do to stick in the league.”
Brooks, known for his physical and vocal playing style, has a history of confrontations, including past incidents involving LeBron James and Draymond Green.
Brown made it clear that while Brooks stands out in this regard, most other players avoid that approach.
“They like to talk trash, try to get under your skin, try to push you a little bit for no reason — all that type stuff,” he said.
Brown also recalled another instance involving Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard during a previous postseason matchup.
“Maybe a little bit the guy from Indiana — Nembhard — in the playoffs. He was doing a little bit of that,” Brown said.
He described how Nembhard tried subtle tactics like tugging on his shorts or pestering him away from the ball.
“Just doing stuff to try to get in your head,” Brown added.
Despite occasional antics from opponents, Brown has been a consistent presence on both ends of the floor for Boston this season.
The 28-year-old is averaging 22.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while logging 34.5 minutes.
His production has been critical in keeping the Celtics near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Boston currently holds the No. 2 seed with a 58–20 record, trailing only the Cleveland Cavaliers with four games left in the regular season.
