Draymond Green did not hold back when discussing his views on the current state of the NBA. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the Golden State Warriors forward criticized how the game is played today, calling it “boring.”

Green pointed to a recent game against the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James as an exception. He described it as “refreshing” because James still approaches the game like a chess match, analyzing defenses and making strategic plays.

“Every possession is some type of chess move,” Green said via ESPN. “You don’t get that today in the NBA, often… You don’t just get that on a regular basis.”

The four-time NBA champion believes the league has shifted toward a style that prioritizes speed and three-point shooting over tactical play. He argued that star players no longer receive the same respect from officials, changing the way the game is officiated compared to the past.

“It’s just who can run faster, who can hit more 3s, it’s no substance,” Green said. “I think it’s very boring.”

Green has never shied away from strong opinions, often speaking out about issues in the NBA. His latest comments add to a growing discussion about whether the league’s emphasis on spacing and perimeter shooting has come at the expense of strategy.

The Warriors veteran is known for his defensive versatility and high basketball IQ, qualities that have made him a key part of Golden State’s success. He has played alongside some of the best shooters in history, including Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, during an era that revolutionized the game with three-point shooting.

However, Green appears frustrated with what he sees as a lack of variety in today’s NBA. With teams focusing heavily on pace and efficiency, he believes the art of strategic basketball has been lost.

Golden State is currently fighting for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The team sits at 28-27, tied for ninth place, as they aim to make a push in the final stretch of the season.
