According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Dallas Mavericks initiated discussions with at least one other team about the possibility of trading their superstar, Luka Doncic, roughly two weeks ago.
This came as a surprise, especially since Doncic has been the face of the franchise and widely regarded as one of the NBA’s brightest young stars.
In a particularly unexpected move, the Mavs reportedly offered the guard to the Los Angeles Lakers just a few days before completing the trade with another team.
However, sources indicate that the Mavericks’ primary interest was in acquiring Anthony Davis, the Lakers’ star forward, as the focal point of any potential deal involving Doncic.
The Mavericks, despite the trade talks, emphasized that Doncic did not request a trade and that his name was not made publicly available on the market.
This suggests that the team’s outreach was more of an exploratory measure, rather than a formal attempt to move their franchise cornerstone.
While the Mavs explored the trade avenue, it appears they did so without Doncic’s direct involvement or public indication of wanting to leave.
