CJ McCollum erupted for 45 points, including six in overtime, as the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Utah Jazz 123-119 on Monday night. The Pelicans, now 12-32, mounted the largest comeback in franchise history, erasing a 25-point deficit to secure their fifth win in six games.

McCollum’s scoring barrage was crucial during the second half, where he poured in 25 points and hit three clutch three-pointers in the final minutes of regulation. His performance overshadowed a dominant Jazz effort on the boards, as Utah outrebounded New Orleans 63-45.

Trey Murphy III added 24 points, hitting four three-pointers. Dejounte Murray contributed a double-double with 26 points and 11 assists, while the Pelicans overcame the absence of Zion Williamson and Yves Missi.

Utah, now 10-31, started strong, racing to a 22-point lead in the first half and extending it to 25 before New Orleans began their comeback. A 25-3 run by the Pelicans, capped by Jose Alvarado’s corner three, gave New Orleans their first lead at 90-89.

Keyonte George led the Jazz with 23 points and seven assists, while Isaiah Collier chipped in 20 points and 11 assists. Walker Kessler dominated inside with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and a crucial putback to give Utah a late lead in regulation. However, Murray’s driving layup tied the game at 110, forcing overtime.

In overtime, McCollum delivered yet again, scoring six points to put the game out of reach. The Pelicans’ offense, which shot 50% from the field after halftime, proved too much for the Jazz, who struggled from deep, making just 11 of 46 three-point attempts.

Utah’s effort was further hindered by the absence of Lauri Markkanen, who missed his fourth straight game with a lower back injury, and Collin Sexton, who was rested. Despite the loss, Kyle Filipowski provided a bright spot for the Jazz with a double-double of 17 rebounds and 11 points.

New Orleans’ bench played a pivotal role, led by Jordan Hawkins, who scored 18 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc. The Pelicans also capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 26 of 29 attempts for an 89.7% clip.
