The Toronto Raptors are reportedly “very motivated” to trade Bruce Brown Jr. before the trade deadline, as revealed by sources speaking to Jake Fischer.

Brown’s situation has been under scrutiny, with his $23 million expiring contract and a decline in performance compared to his impactful role during the Denver Nuggets’ championship run in 2023.

The Raptors appear eager to explore trade opportunities as Brown has not fully regained his form, potentially influenced by his prolonged absence earlier in the season due to a right knee injury that sidelined him for the first 31 games.

The player’s journey to Toronto traces back to a significant trade last season when the Raptors dealt Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers.

As part of the trade, Brown became the most substantial piece in terms of matching salary.

Just months before that deal, he had signed a lucrative two-year, $45 million contract with the Pacers during the 2023 offseason, a move that highlighted his perceived value following a stellar championship campaign.

This season, however, has been challenging for Brown. Limited to just nine games, he has struggled to make a significant impact, averaging 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 18.2 minutes per game.

While these numbers mark a drop from his previous contributions, the Raptors may still see value in moving him to another team, particularly as his expiring contract could be attractive for teams seeking financial flexibility.

As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on how Toronto handles Brown’s situation and whether they can secure a deal that aligns with their long-term goals.

Brown has played 7 seasons for 5 teams, including the Nets and Pistons. He has averaged 8.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 425 regular-season games. He has won 1 NBA championship.
