The ongoing wildfires across Los Angeles have taken a heavy toll on the city, with the devastation impacting both residents and public figures. Lakers head coach JJ Redick has lost his home to the flames.
Redick’s personal loss was confirmed after NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the Lakers-Hornets game on January 9, was postponed due to the raging fires. The fires, which have scorched thousands of acres, continue to wreak havoc across Southern California.
The wildfires began on Tuesday, January 8, fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds and dry vegetation. The fires have spread rapidly, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate their homes in areas such as the Pacific Palisades neighborhood. This upscale area, known for housing Hollywood stars, has suffered extensive damage, with at least 15,832 acres affected by the Palisades Fire alone.
The massive fire, which has burned along the Malibu coastline, is just one of several destructive blazes consuming the region. Other significant fires, including the Hurst Fire and Sunset Fire, have caused widespread damage in neighborhoods like Sylmar and the Hollywood Hills. Despite containment efforts on other fires such as the Woodley and Olivas Fires, the situation in many parts of LA remains perilous.
Redick, along with other members of the Lakers organization, is now dealing with the aftermath of these tragic events. Charania’s report highlights the extent of the destruction, revealing that the fires have affected not only ordinary residents but also celebrities, who have also lost their homes.
The Lakers’ postponement of the game against the Charlotte Hornets is just one example of how the fires have disrupted daily life in Los Angeles.
