The Charlotte Hornets entered the 2024-2025 season with a sense of optimism, aiming to compete for a play-in spot in the highly competitive Eastern Conference.
With first-year head coach Charles Lee at the helm, the organization was excited about the potential of its young, talented roster.
The team featured a blend of rising stars, including LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and Brandon Miller, along with promising newcomers and veterans who were expected to contribute to a more competitive season.
There was a sense that the Hornets had the right pieces in place to make a push for postseason contention, as they looked to build chemistry and progress under Lee’s leadership.
The hope was that this blend of youth and energy would spark a turnaround and elevate the team into the playoff conversation.
However, the team’s journey has not unfolded as planned. Injuries have taken a significant toll on the roster, while other factors, such as inconsistent performances and difficulties in executing the game plan, have contributed to their struggles.
Since November 23, the Hornets have been on a rough stretch, compiling a 1-15 record, which has significantly hampered their chances of achieving a higher standing in the standings.
As a result, Charlotte now finds itself tied with Toronto for 13th place in the Eastern Conference, making it increasingly likely that they will be in the mix for another high lottery pick rather than fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
Despite this, the team remains committed to staying the course and building for the future.
“Everyone’s journey is different,” Charles Lee said. “There’s no quit in this team and there’s a ton of fight, which is what I love. Because that’s what it’s going to take. Nobody’s going to feel sorry for us. Life doesn’t feel sorry for you.
“The world keeps spinning, and so you’ve got to figure out how do I just kind of reset and refocus and come with the right attitude to try to make a change? And a lot of that has got to be your actions.”
