The Chicago Bulls have reportedly shown no interest in acquiring Zeke Nnaji as part of any potential trade package involving Zach LaVine. According to K.C. Johnson, the Bulls have dismissed the idea of taking on Nnaji’s contract during ongoing discussions with the Denver Nuggets.
Nnaji, 23, has been on the periphery of Denver’s rotation, averaging just 1.3 points in 4.9 minutes per game this season. He signed a four-year, $32 million contract earlier this year, which includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. Despite his untapped potential, the Bulls appear unwilling to absorb his $8 million annual salary.
The Nuggets are actively exploring ways to upgrade their roster to improve their scoring depth. LaVine, a two-time All-Star and proven scorer, has emerged as a key target for Denver’s front office. LaVine is averaging 21.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season while shooting 45.8% from the field.
Denver sees LaVine as an ideal offensive complement to their core duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. Adding LaVine to the mix would alleviate the scoring burden on the reigning MVP and his backcourt partner, strengthening the Nuggets’ playoff aspirations.
However, LaVine’s sizable contract complicates trade negotiations. He is earning $43 million this season and is guaranteed $45.9 million in 2025-26. He also holds a $48.9 million player option for the 2026-27 season. Any deal for the high-scoring guard would require Denver to move multiple assets to match salaries, potentially including Nnaji’s contract.
The Bulls, currently navigating a middling season, have signaled a willingness to move LaVine as part of their rebuilding process. However, they appear focused on acquiring assets that align with their long-term vision, making Nnaji’s contract unappealing.
The Nuggets, meanwhile, are under pressure to make a move after an inconsistent start to the season. With a 14-11 record, Denver sits sixth in the Western Conference standings, well below expectations for the 2023 NBA champions.
