Carmelo Anthony recently shared his thoughts on Karl-Anthony Towns’ move to the New York Knicks, calling it a transformative step for the star big man.

Speaking on this week’s episode 7PM in Brooklyn, a Wave Sports + Entertainment, which featured Bronx legend Fat Joe, Anthony praised Towns for embracing the challenges and culture of playing in New York.

Anthony, who spent over six seasons with the Knicks, noted that Towns seems rejuvenated since the trade. “KAT found a new life, man,” Anthony said. “When you come to New York, you have to find your way… KAT is finding his way, almost like coming back home in a sense. There’s no more pressure. It’s relaxed—your family, your routine.”

Anthony highlighted that succeeding in New York requires toughness and a connection to the city’s gritty basketball culture. He added that Towns, known for his three-point shooting and finesse, is starting to bring the physicality Knicks fans expect. “We want to see the nitty and gritty part of KAT,” Anthony emphasized. “What you’re seeing now, him hitting the three and walking off in New York—that’s a different energy.”

Towns is delivering for the Knicks, averaging 24.9 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. His performance has helped New York to a 15-10 record, placing them fourth in the Eastern Conference.

During the discussion, Fat Joe compared Towns to Nikola Jokic, the reigning NBA MVP. Joe pointed out that the Serbian superstar’s unconventional style sets him apart. “The thing that makes Joker special is he does everything your coach told you not to do,” Fat Joe said.

Anthony agreed, calling Jokic “unorthodox” but acknowledged the rising buzz around Towns. “I love the fact that we’re actually talking about KAT in this regard,” Anthony said. “Sometimes, it takes going to a fresh situation to find that part of yourself.”

Melo also acknowledged the heightened expectations that come with playing in New York. “He has to perform in New York,” he said. “The pressure is there, but I think KAT is finding himself.”
