Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has shared his thoughts on the team’s preseason performance, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement. Despite a 1-2 start, Redick is optimistic about the team’s progress as they gear up for the 2024-25 NBA season.
“Overall, our practices have had really good energy and intent effort,” Redick said, as reported by Lakers sideline reporter Mike Trudell. “You can build a lot from there if you don’t have to coach those things. The group has been really good, and for the long term, that’s encouraging.”
The Lakers have played three preseason games so far, securing one victory. They lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves (124-107) and the Phoenix Suns (118-114) but managed to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks (107-102).
Redick emphasized that the energy and focus displayed during practices are important building blocks for the team’s future success. His coaching approach has been centered on fostering a strong work ethic and ensuring players are locked in during training sessions.
The Lakers will play three more preseason games, including two matchups against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 15 and Oct. 18, as well as a second contest against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 17. These games will provide further opportunities for Redick and his coaching staff to fine-tune the roster and make necessary adjustments before the regular season kicks off.
Los Angeles is set to begin their 2024-25 campaign with a road game against the Timberwolves on Oct. 22. Redick’s debut season as head coach has been met with high expectations, especially considering the Lakers’ storied history and star-studded roster.
