Speaking to Steve Aschburner of NBA.com, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau acknowledged that the departure of Isaiah Hartenstein creates a gap in the frontcourt rotation. However, he expressed satisfaction with the overall work done by the front office during the offseason.
Thibodeau outlined his expectations for the frontcourt rotation in the absence of Hartenstein, noting that Mitchell Robinson, the starting center, will continue to anchor the position. Without Hartenstein as a backup, the team will need to adjust its rotation and explore how best to fill this void.
“We’ll probably have to do it by committee,” Thibodeau said. “We’ll look at some different things, because we have versatility – we could see Julius more at the five.
“I don’t want to do that for long stretches, it would take its toll, but to have him do it for 10 or 15 minutes, I think he can do it well. He also would create a lot of (offensive) advantages.”
