Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards recently opened up about the experience of sweeping his idol, Kevin Durant, in the playoffs.

Edwards, who has often expressed his admiration for Durant, faced a unique emotional challenge during their postseason clash.

“I’m not going to lie, I felt bad a little bit only because Kevin Durant is my favorite player of all time,” Edwards revealed in a conversation with Boardroom.

The Timberwolves’ sweep of the Phoenix Suns, led by Durant, marked a significant milestone for Minnesota. It was the franchise’s first playoff series win since the 2003–04 season and their first-ever series sweep.

Despite the joy of victory, Edwards found it difficult to fully celebrate the moment. “I didn’t want to send him home like that, but it happened. I felt bad,” Edwards admitted.

The Timberwolves’ dominant performance in the Western Conference quarterfinals was a historic achievement for the franchise. They not only secured their first 3–0 playoff lead but also made history with their first playoff series sweep.

Edwards, a key contributor to the team’s success, showcased his growth and maturity as a player throughout the series.

Following their victory over the Suns, the Timberwolves continued their impressive playoff run by defeating the defending champion Denver Nuggets in a hard-fought seven-game series. This victory advanced Minnesota to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in two decades, signaling a new era for the franchise.

However, the Timberwolves’ journey ended in the Western Conference Finals, where they faced a formidable Dallas Mavericks team led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Minnesota was eliminated in five games, bringing their remarkable playoff run to a close.
