In a move that has excited basketball fans worldwide, Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers superstar, has officially confirmed his commitment to play for Team USA in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

This announcement adds another marquee name to the roster of players eager to represent the United States on the international stage, joining the likes of LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker.

Taking to X, Embiid shared his decision with fans, offering a glimpse into the personal and emotional factors that influenced his choice.

He expressed his deep connection to three different countries, emphasizing the significance of each. “I’m really proud and excited about this decision. It was not easy. I am blessed to call Cameroon, France, and the USA home,” Embiid said.

The 29-year-old athlete continued, revealing the pivotal role his family played in his decision-making process. “After talking to my family, I knew it had to be Team USA,” he stated. “I want to play with my brothers in the league.”

Embiid’s commitment to play for Team USA is also a tribute to his loyal fan base. “I want to play for my fans because they’ve been incredible since the day I came here,” he acknowledged.

However, perhaps the most heartfelt motivation behind his decision is the desire to honor his son, who was born in the United States.

“But most of all, I want to honor my son who was born in the US. I want my boy to know I played my first Olympics for him,” Embiid concluded.
