The basketball world has been abuzz with excitement following Victor Wembanyama’s selection as the first overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA draft.

Heralded as an extraordinary talent, Wembanyama’s entry into the league has sparked comparisons to legends like LeBron James. However, NBA icon Tracy McGrady is urging everyone to temper their expectations.

In an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson on the Scoop B Radio Podcast, McGrady emphasized the importance of being realistic about the young player’s potential. “Y’all talking about the greatest player of all time and this and that like… c’mon man. We gotta chill out with that,” McGrady stated.

T-Mac stressed that while Wembanyama has immense potential and will receive guidance from basketball luminaries like Greg Popovich, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson, it’s crucial to remember that the NBA is an entirely different playing field. “Let it play out man. We don’t know how great this kid is going to be. We just don’t know. This is the NBA bro!” he exclaimed.

The former NBA star highlighted the competitive nature of the league and the challenges Wembanyama will face. “It’s going to be some guys over here on this soil that’s going to challenge that,” McGrady noted. He urged patience and cautioned against anointing Wembanyama as the top dog before he’s had a chance to prove himself on the court.
