Being considered one of the all-time great point guards of the game is Trae Young’s ultimate vision for himself.

As such, he further detailed this lofty goal of his on the latest segment of Gil’s Arena (19:22 mark), noting that he wants to be remembered as a legendary floor general when it’s all said and done.

“For me, I just want to be remembered as one of the best point guards to ever play this game. I know if I’ve done that, I’m up there as one of the best players. For me, I’m competing with guys like Gilbert (Arenas) and guys like Steph (Curry) and CP (Chris Paul) and guys like the best PGs that ever played,” he said.

“So I’m trying to get on that level and just try to pass them because I know if I do that, I’m on the list with some of the best players. That’s my goal for me.”

Now slated to enter his sixth year in the NBA, Young has been impressive so far at the individual standpoint of his professional career. At age 24, he already has two All-Star selections under his belt while being a member of the All-NBA Third Team last 2021-22 season. Throughout 353 total regular season games, he has been averaging a solid 25.5 points and 9.3 assists which clearly depict his special talent as a deadly offensive guard.

In terms of collective success, he is yet to power the Hawks to a championship run. But in 2020-21, he notably served as the lead man of the club’s unthinkable Conference Finals finish – a promising sign that he has the capacity to be at front for them and win it all for the city of Atlanta.

As he got nothing but praise and optimism about his co-star Dejounte Murray, head coach in Quin Snyder, as well as the present and future of the Hawks franchise with him at the center, Young’s desire to get aligned with some of the game’s greatest floor generals is indeed daunting to complete given the league’s rising competitive scenes. Yet, it would be truly fulfilling if it becomes successful at his side knowing that he’ll be in the conversation alongside Magic Johnson, Stephen Curry, Isiah Thomas, Oscar Robertson, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd and Chris Paul.

The next 2023-24 season offers a brand new opportunity for Young as he eyes to guide the Hawks to greater heights and continue to amass more and more honors that would further glorify his stardom.
