The Cleveland Cavaliers are having high hopes about Ricky Rubio’s 2023-24 outing.

Per Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cavs are optimistic about what could be a bounce-back campaign for the veteran following his return from an ACL injury last 2021-22 season.

Rubio, who made a return to the Cavaliers in a reported three-year, $18MM deal in last year’s offseason, only appeared for 33 games as he took initial time to recover from the said injury at the start.

In his comeback for the Cavs, he has shown significant rust as a backup ball handler behind Darius Garland, tallying a career-low 5.2 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 boards in 17.2 minutes of play. He also shot horribly with a 34.3 percent mark.

As Fedor pointed out, Rubio’s assumed participation for Spain in the upcoming FIBA World Cup this year is being considered by Cleveland as a stepping stone on their desire for the point man to get conditioned and perform much better next season.

The Cavaliers are looking for a redeeming year after a disappointing first-round exit against the New York Knicks last postseason.
