According to a report by Marc Stein on Substack, it appears highly likely that the Rockets will secure the signings of Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks. Stein mentioned that it would be surprising if the two players didn’t reach verbal agreements with the Rockets by Friday night.

VanVleet, who had an impressive season with the Raptors, is expected to receive a two-year offer from Houston worth around $83.6 million. The Rockets view him as a leader who can help change the team’s culture and serve as an example for their young roster.

Brooks, the former Grizzlies swingman, is also anticipated to join the Rockets on a two-year deal in the range of $14 to $16 million per year. Houston is confident that their new head coach, Ime Udoka, and his no-nonsense approach can bring out the best in Brooks.

During the previous season, VanVleet averaged 19.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in 36.7 minutes per game, while Brooks contributed 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 30.3 minutes per game for the Grizzlies.

If the Rockets successfully secure the signings of VanVleet and Brooks, it could significantly strengthen their roster and provide a boost to their rebuilding efforts. The team is eager to establish a new identity and believes these additions will contribute to their future success.
