One player whose future is currently under scrutiny is shooting guard Austin Reaves, who emerged as a vital piece for the team in his second year in the league.

As a restricted free agent, Reaves had an impressive campaign, showcasing his scoring ability and versatility on both ends of the court. Throughout the playoffs, Reaves stood out as a player who could excel in isolation or pick-and-roll situations, earning praise from NBA insider Shams Charania.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, Charania emphasized Reaves’ impact, stating, “He’s earned himself a lot of money… The max the Lakers can offer right now is four years a little over $50 million. The max any other team can offer is close to $100 million. I think he’s closer to somewhere in the middle of that as far as his value when I talk to team executives.”

Reaves’ contributions in the postseason further solidified his value. Starting in all 16 playoff games for the Lakers, he averaged 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 36.2 minutes per game. His performances did not go unnoticed, and it is expected that he will command a substantial contract in free agency.

Due to the contract he signed, the Lakers can initially offer him a maximum of four years, valued at around $53 million. In contrast, other teams can present offers approaching $100 million.

As a restricted free agent, the Lakers have the ability to match any offer Reaves receives. However, there is a scenario where Reaves may receive a lucrative offer sheet that forces the Lakers to make a challenging decision.

Ultimately, the Lakers are keen on retaining Reaves, given his contributions and his desire to remain with the organization. “But they want to bring him back, he wants to be back,” Charania said.
