Fenerbahce have announced the signing of highly sought-after Italian international Gigi Datome on a three-year deal.

Datome, who spent the last three seasons in the NBA, most recently with the Boston Celtics joins Pero Antic, who also departed the NBA this off-season, as well as Kostas Sloukas and Baris Hersek as the new additions to coach Zeljko Obradovic’s stregthened squad.

Datome grew up with Olbia Basket (Italy) youth teams. He signed for the 2003-04 season by Mens Sana Basket Siena and played there till Ferbuary’07. Datome signed by Scafati Basket and played there also the 2007-08 season. Datome signed for the 2008-09 season by Virtus Roma and played there till July ’13. On July 16, 2013, Datome signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Pistons. On January 14, 2015, Datome was assigned by the Pistons to the Grand Rapids Drive of the NBA Development League. On January 20, he was recalled by the Pistons. On February 19, 2015, Datome was traded, along with Jonas Jerebko, to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Tayshaun Prince.

Datome won the 2003-04 Italian National Championship with Mens Sana Basket Siena. He has been member of the Italian U-16, U-18 and U-20 National Teams. Datome played at the 2003 European U-16 Championship. He played at the 2004 European U-18 Championship and won the bronze medal at the 2005 European U-18 Championship. Datome played at the 2006 European U-20 Championship and he was also member of the Italian National Team. Datome played at the 2007, 2011 and 2013 European Championships.
