The Dallas Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving was asked for insight into the development of short-range counters in his game after he converted a tough, clutch-time short-range turnaround against the Sacramento Kings.

“I think the most simple answer to that is just watching the best of the best that I’ve ever played,” Irving said. “Specifically, at the one guard and two guard position or three guard position have worked really, even centers, you know, you got Hakeem [Olajuwon], Michael Jordan, and Kobe [Bryant] that I watch pretty often.

“Just studying their footwork and having moves on top of moves and combinations on combinations. Just never know when you have to go to the toolbox to use something against a defender. So, that’s how I work on my game, just segment by segment, and when it works out great, but when it doesn’t, just got to back into the gym.”
