Last summer James Harden signed a two-year contract with the 76ers and took a pay cut to give more room for the team to add better pieces around him and Joel Embiid.

The 2023-2024 season is a player option for Harden and now the rumors are starting to circulate that he could be headed back to Houston where he spent nine years before forcing a trade to the Nets.

Sixers’ president of basketball operations Daryl Morey was recently about the future of the 33-yer-old shooting guard with whom he worked on the Rockets.

According to Morey, when Harden decides about his future, he will pick the place where he has the best chance of winning his first championship.

“He’s just in this season and not the offseason,” he said on SportsCenter. “But I know that he’s focused on winning the championship. He’s gonna be wherever he feels like he has the best chance.

“Obviously, his pairing with Embiid is very, very good and we feel like it’s a great pairing for the long term.”

This season Harden is averaging 21.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 10.7 assists in 36.5 minutes per game.
