The Lakers hosted the Nets at crypto.com Arena in a battle between two struggling preseason favorites. It was the Purple and Gold that got the better of the visitors (116-103).

According to Patrick Beverley, this was one of the best defensive games that his team has played this season. When asked about what was the key to the defensive side of the ball, the 33-year-old point guard had his usual tongue in cheek response.

“I think today was a defensive game. We defended our asses off and that’s what led to early offense,” Pat Bev said. “Me guarding KD. That was the key. From the beginning. I set the tone, team responded.”

He was then asked whether he asked to guard Kevin Durant. Beverley was affirmative. “I asked for it [to defend Durant] all those times, all of them,” he said.

“We came up short against the Clippers. Game plan ws good against Paul George. We should have won agains Sac[ramento]. I started off on KD today. I love those matchups. It’s how I make my name in the NBA with those matchups.”
