Despite coming up short in the recent NBA Finals, Grant Williams still holds a high regard for his Boston Celtics team over the newly-crowned Golden State Warriors.

Appearing on Duncan Robinson’s The Long Shot podcast, Williams personally claimed that the Warriors “weren’t the better team” over the Cs, despite the former nailing the title series in six thrilling games.

“When I’ve reflected and looked back to those games, I still would say confidently — confidently — to this day they weren’t the better team,” Williams said, per Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston. “I would say they were the more disciplined team. I would say that without a doubt.”

The Celtics managed to climb up with a 2-1 series lead, but the Dubs’ championship badge down the stretch has glimmered for the next two games. In Game 6, Golden State pulled off as early as the second frame to seal their fourth title in eight years.

“Their history of being in the Finals, their championship pedigree, that was real,” Williams added (h/t Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report). “At times, when you go back and watch the film, we had commanding leads or had opportunities where we went on runs. The next thing you know, we turn it over three times because we missed three shots. Instead of making the right read, because we missed those shots, we started forcing things. Stuff like that.

“Just discipline of making the right play over and over and over again, we didn’t play well. Well, they play the same way no matter what.”

Amid the painful, yet humbling Finals defeat, Boston had a productive offseason in hopes of attempting to run things back and finally claim their 18th banner for next season. Upon the successful acquisition of Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari, the Cs have bolstered their chances to land in the basketball’s promised land.
