Andre Drummond went through a wild experience last year when he was traded to the Cavs. The Cleveland center gave a play-by-play breakdown to Ryan Hollins & Brendan Haywood about the moment he got traded. The story of Drummond’s trade deadline experience with Detroit describes the harsh reality many NBA players face when dealt.

Drummond says he was on his way to the airport for a flight to Detroit’s next away game in OKC with under an hour left on the clock. He was in contact with his agent the entire time and hadn’t heard any buzz. With ten minutes remaining, Drummond hopped on his flight thinking he was safe, but then received a call.

“I’m getting ready to walk on the plane and he calls me back, so I stopped. I’m at the bottom of the stairs of the plane, so I’m like, ‘Yo whats up?’ He’s laughing, he’s like, ‘Yo we’re going to Cleveland.’ So I’m walking up the stairs, I’m like, ‘This s**** over, what are you talking about?’ He’s like, ‘No, I’m serious get off the plane, you got traded!’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, you’re going to Cleveland.’ I’m like, ‘Alright what do I do now? I’ve never been traded before.’ He’s like, ‘Get off the plane and go home.’ So I get off and go back home.”
