Amid the NBA Finals, the Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving became the center of attention following his comments on a podcast with Kevin Durant.

Two of the most controversial things Irving said was that he was the best option down the stretch on every team he has played, which was an indirect shot at LeBron James, and that the Nets don’t need a head coach.

Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith reacted to Kyrie’s head coach comment, calling it one of the most ignorant things he has heard a player say.

“That might be one of the most ignorant damn things I’ve heard a player say,” Smith said on First Take. “‘We don’t really need a coach?’ Tell me a player in the history of sports that never needed coaching.

“Now Bill Russell ultimately became a player-coach and we understand that. Prior to that he had Red Auerbach. Michael Jordan didn’t even want to play for anybody other than Phil Jackson… I don’t even know if I’ve heard anybody say something so ignorant as a basketball player!”
