Velickovic to miss start of Euroleague season

Brose Baskets have confirmed that forward Novica Velickovic will miss the beginning of the Euroleague season due to muscular deficits.

The former Rising Star Trophy winner competed in the German side’s opening pre-season games but missed last weekend’s Maxit Cup, where his side were the home team.

Velickovic will undergo a personal conditioning program at this time, causing him to miss the start of the Euroleague season. It hasn’t been determined how many games he will miss.

“We made the decision after discussing it with the doctor, physiotherapists, athletic trainer and of course the player. We just want to build him up. He has muscular deficits and cannot play at the physical level he is capable of,” said Brose general manager Wolfgang Heyder.

Velickovic hit 15 points and seven rebounds against Ludwigsburg and 13 points against Polish side PGE Turow, but has not played against Bremerhaven, nor did he suit up for last week’s Maxit Cup.

Brose Baskets have been drawn in Group B of the Euroleague regular season, where they will play Real Madrid, Anadolu Efes, Zalgiris, EA7 Milano and newcomers Strasbourg.
