EuroLeague preview: Maccabi hosts Bamberg

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv hosts basement side Brose Baskets on Wednesday with the Israeli side looking to bounce back from last week’s home loss to Anadolu Efes, whereas Bamberg aim to grab their third win of the campaign.

For the German champions, it’s a great opportunity against a Maccabi team that are stuttering at home having lost three games so far this season.

Maccabi looked to have turned the corner but are stuck on a 5-5 record heading into Wednesday’s EuroLeague clash.

“As far as our team is concerned, I feel we’re on the rise for a while now but even within a time like this, there can be some mishaps,” said Maccabi coach Remi Hadar.

“A team is eventually made of people and that creates a certain level of instability.”

Maccabi face a Bamberg side, currently 2-8 and bottom of the EuroLeague table, however, the majority of their defeats have come courtesy of their ability to play well for the first three quarters then spectacularly falter in the final few minutes of the fourth.

“I know Bamberg lost a lot of games but many of them were very close,” says Maccabi’s Victor Rudd.

“They’re a good team and we’ll need to play our best basketball to beat them. Despite the loss last week, I feel like we’re still playing good basketball on both sides of the court. We need to keep playing like that and we’ll be alright.”

“They are a good team,” Bamberg’s Fabien Causeur said.

“It will be a tough game, especially when they play at home in front of their fans. We have to play a really good game. We have to stay focused for 40 minutes.”
