Kawhi Leonard shared his thoughts on Paul George’s departure from the Los Angeles Clippers during the team’s media day. George recently signed with the Philadelphia 76ers after spending five seasons with the Clippers.
Leonard emphasized that while George contributed positively on the court, he does not view him as a crutch. “He obviously made things easier on the court for players,” Leonard said, via Law Murray of The Athletic. “But as far as my mental focus going into the game, I don’t feel like it’s going to be harder for me personally.”
He made it clear that he does not rely on any teammate to carry the burden. “I didn’t look at, for anybody I’m on the court with, I don’t look at him to be my savior,” he stated. “I take in my own role and my challenges that I have to face each and every game and go in there and try to dominate the game.”
George was a significant asset to the Clippers last season. He averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 33.8 minutes per game. His departure marks a notable change in the Clippers’ roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Leonard joined the Clippers in 2019 alongside George, and both players were pivotal in the team’s playoff aspirations. Leonard’s mindset moving forward reflects his confidence in his abilities and the team’s potential.
As the Clippers look to build on their recent playoff success, Leonard aims to lead the team without the support of George. He understands the importance of adapting to changes within the roster.
The Clippers will face a competitive landscape in the Western Conference. With George now in Philadelphia, other players must step up to fill the void he leaves behind.
