The Los Angeles Lakers are actively considering trading point guard D’Angelo Russell as the NBA trade deadline approaches this season.

The 27-year-old guard has emerged as a key trade candidate, with the Lakers aiming to utilize him in a potential deal for Atlanta Hawks’ Dejounte Murray. However, reports suggest that the Hawks are currently not keen on acquiring Russell in the proposed trade.

Amidst the complexities of direct trade negotiations, a three-team trade scenario has emerged, presenting an opportunity for a different team to acquire Russell.

The Brooklyn Nets, familiar with Russell from his previous stint with the team, are reportedly interested in being part of this multi-team trade. In exchange, the Nets would send point guard Spencer Dinwiddie.

ESPN’s NBA insider Brian Windhorst shed light on the potential deal, stating, “If they do make a deal, it would likely be for a guard — former Nets All-Star D’Angelo Russell has been among those names floated. With an expiring $20.3 million deal, Dinwiddie is the likely fulcrum in any big move before the deadline.”

Windhorst’s insights emphasize the significance of Dinwiddie’s expiring contract in facilitating major moves.

As the trade discussions unfold, Russell is veraging 17.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 2.6 rebounds in 30.7 minutes per game.
