The Suns made the biggest trade before this year’s trade deadline by acquiring Kevin Durant from the Nets.
It was up to the team’s new owner Mat Ishbia to decide whether to pull the trigger on the blockbuster trade. For him it was an easy decision to make.
Ishbia also said that Phoenix will not have the mentality of ‘let’s win a championship now’ but will try to be the leading franchise in the NBA.

“This was the right decision for the team and for the business and for the players. It wasn’t a tough decision. We really didn’t want to give up some of the guys, because we love those guys. They were winners and we didn’t want to give them up. But at the end of the day the right decision was, what do we do to maximize our team for today and for the next three to four years?”
This season Durant has averaged 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 36 minutes per game for Brooklyn.
