Kevin Durant must guard Anthony Edward entire series, says Draymond Green

Draymond Green, offering strategic insights, believes that the Phoenix Suns’ best chance in their first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves hinges on assigning Kevin Durant to defend Anthony Edwards.

According to Green, Durant’s defensive assignment on Edwards should be consistent throughout the series, allowing other Suns players to share the offensive burden.

During an episode of The Draymond Green Show, Green emphasized the importance of Durant’s defensive responsibilities against Edwards, stressing the need for offensive contributions from players like Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Grayson Allen to alleviate Durant’s workload.

“What the Phoenix Suns are going to have to do is they’re going to have to play KD on Anthony Edwards the entire series. That has to be his matchup,” Green said.

“And what Phoenix has to do is they’re going to have to rely on Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Grayson Allen you’re going to have to hit some shots. And they’re going to have to rely on those guys that carry the load offensively because to ask Kevin to go lock up Anthony Edwards and then go carry the load on the offensive end, he ain’t year 18, it ain’t happening every night.”

In Game 1, Edwards showcased his scoring prowess, dropping 33 points to propel the Timberwolves to a commanding 120-95 victory over the Suns.

The third-seeded Timberwolves dominated both ends of the floor, establishing control early and maintaining their momentum throughout the game.

Despite a strong offensive performance led by Durant’s 31 points, the Suns struggled to contain the Timberwolves’ relentless attack and cohesive team play.
