OKC to shut down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the rest of the season

The Oklahoma City Thunder is shelving their main man Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the remainder of the season, head coach Mark Daigneault declared on Monday (h/t team insider Andrew Schlecht).

SGA was out for the Thunder’s previous games due to right ankle soreness. For the last eight occasions that the 23-year-old year old was unavailable, both parties have eventually agreed that not suiting up is the best decision in the long-term health perspective.

Gilgeous-Alexander had a productive 2021-2022 campaign as the leader of the promising OKC, averaging 24.5 points, 5.9 assists, 5.0 boards, 1.3 steals and 55.7 true shooting percentage in 56 games.

His lucrative five-year, $172 million deal that he inked with the franchise last summer will start to roll in the next season.
