Steph Curry led the Golden State Warriors to the victory Friday night as he hit his first winning buzzer-beater of his career. Curry made plenty of shots with less than five seconds in the clock but never one at the buzzer.
Curry joked during his postgame interview with NBC Sports Bay Area that it was “about time I made one.” He finished with a team-high 21 points; however, he only hit six of his 21 shots during the game.
In the post-game presser, Curry revealed he’s aware of his shooting slump in the last month, as he finished another game with just six made shots and four made threes in 13 attempts.
“I know I got to shoot the ball better,” Curry told reporters after the game. “I want to shoot it better, and I’m gonna shoot it better. … I obsess over the shooting numbers because that’s what I do and that’s what I work on. When you don’t reach those levels, it’s frustrating.”
It’s certainly stunning that it took so long for Curry to make his first walk-off shot at the buzzer, after 13 years in the NBA. However, Curry remained focused on his shooting struggles in the post-game presser.
“It’s the standard I hold myself to,” Curry said. “I know I can do it and sustain it. That’s the challenge, I guess, is to be aware of it, continue to be aggressive. Understand there is a lot of season left and it’s about peaking at the right time. But I do obsess over that stuff because it’s your craft.”
The ‘Dubs’ superstar is shooting the ball with the worst averages of his career, making just 42 percent of his shots from the field and 38 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
The Warriors will have to continue pushing ahead after a heartbreaking loss to the Indiana Pacers Tuesday and a tough win over the rebuilding Houston Rockets last night. Their quest to find form continues Sunday vs the Utah Jazz.
