ECA Assembly disagrees with FIBA format changes

Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) Assembly joined the list of international basketball bodies that disagree with the new World Calendar Competition Format approved by FIBA recently.

The ECA members were of the opinion that having national teams play official games locally was a positive move. Giving national teams more home games was one of the main reasons of why the new format was introduced by FIBA.

Yet ECA members also voiced concern that the expanded national team calendar would not include all of the world’s best players and would not allow for athletes to rest.

Just a few days ago FIBA Europe has issued an official statement against FIBA’s decision to hold continental championships every four years.

According to Mindaugas Balciunas, Lithuanian Basketball Federation Secretary General, Greece and Sweden are the only European nations that support the new format.
