Kemzura‘s reaction after first win

The coach of the Lithuanian national team, Kestutis Kemzura, highlighted the importance of his team’s first win of the tournament, over Nigeria 72-53, after the game.

“Getting back after the opening loss, mainly mentally, was crucial to us and we knew that it would not be easy. We understood that our situation is really tough. Losing this game would complicate our progress to the next stage.”

He has been motivating his players based on their 80-86 defeat to the Africans in Caracas, Venezuela at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

“We played tough in Caracas too, but they played a really good game. We knew how dangerous, talented and athletic they are. They aren’t accidentally here, participating at the Olympics with all the other teams.”

Kestutis Kemzura expressed his satisfaction with the game plan realisation although the opponents showed excellent rebounding – 21 offensive of a total of 42 rebounds.

“Defence was today’s key moment. All the players were fighting and giving their best, not only in scoring the points, but in putting the effort. Today we played as a team. Nineteen assists showed that – Jasikevicius 9, Kalnietis 7.”
