Gregg Popovich explained why the Spurs decided to buy out DeMarre Carroll’s contract. According to Pop, San Antonio wanted to help the 33-year-old who is a good guy but wasn’t going to play for the team.
One of the most decorated coaches in the NBA said that the Spurs were trying to do “something good for him [Carroll] … He’s a good guy, and he wasn’t playing. He wasn’t going to play. There are too many people ahead of him.”
Carroll joined the Spurs on a three-year contract last summer as a free agent. Since then he played only fifteen games for San Antonio and was inactive since January 8. It was obvious that there is no future for him in San Antonio.
He will not stay unemployed for a long time though. It is reported that the Houston Rockets are expected to sign Carroll and Jeff Green.
This season, the 11-year NBA player is averaging 2.2 points and 2.1 rebounds.
