Freeland moves to Portland

Unicaja Malaga forward Joel Freeland has flown to Portland to undergo a medical where is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Trailblazers.

The Blazers are understood to have agreed a 1.5m euro buyout of the remaining two years with Malaga.

The Aldershot-born Freeland, who started his career with Solent Stars was drafted by the NBA side in 2006 but instead developed his game in Spain with Gran Caneria before moving to the Euroleague side where he has built the reputation of being one of the Liga Endesa’s premier forwards.

Freeland is currently with the Great Britain squad, preparing for the Olympic Games in London but due to this deal will miss GB’s pre-Olympic friendlies against Portugal this weekend in Sheffield.
