The Portland Trail Blazers have waived Jeremy Sochan, ending the forward’s brief stint with the franchise before the start of the 2026-27 NBA season.

Marc Stein reported on Saturday, October 17, that Portland had released Sochan, who was selected ninth overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Sochan joined Portland in the offseason on a one-year, $2.6 million contract that was non-guaranteed and structured as an Exhibit 9 deal. The signing gave the Trail Blazers an opportunity to evaluate the 23-year-old forward as they reshaped their roster around Ja Morant, Damian Lillard and Deni Avdija.

Sochan spent his first three NBA seasons with San Antonio before being waived and signed by the New York Knicks during the 2025-26 campaign. He appeared in 28 games for the Spurs and 16 for New York last season, averaging a combined 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game.

His role declined significantly after two productive seasons to begin his career. Sochan averaged 11.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in 56 games as a rookie in 2022-23, then recorded 11.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 74 appearances during the following season.

In 2024-25, he averaged 11.4 points and 6.5 rebounds in 54 games, shooting 53.5% from the field. Across four NBA seasons, Sochan has averaged 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 228 regular-season games.

Portland finished 31-51 in 2025-26 and hired Micah Nori as head coach in June. The franchise’s biggest offseason move was acquiring Morant from Memphis in exchange for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.

The Trail Blazers also extended center Robert Williams III on a three-year, $43.5 million deal and signed Branden Carlson to a guaranteed one-year contract. Sochan’s release comes as Portland continues to finalize its roster for the upcoming season.
