Sheffield Sharks have now won four of their last five league games to consolidate their place in the top five of the BBL Championship.
Mike Tuck produced a captain’s performance with 25 points in his side’s 87-78 success against Plymouth Raiders on Friday night.
“It was a great home win for us,” said Tuck.
“This has been such an up and down season for us with injuries and our win-loss-win-loss record so it’s nice to string a couple of wins together.
“I feel that the team is really starting to gel now and this win will give us some confidence heading into the New Year.”
The Raiders bounced back with a 112-96 victory over Newcastle Eagles as Donte Nicholas and Cory Dixon combined for 56 points in the win which was the club’s first over the Eagles in 13 attempts.
Fab Flournoy’s side had gone into Sunday’s showdown on the back of a convincing road win in the South-West after recording an emphatic 102-67 win against Bristol Flyers with Rahmon Fletcher netting 24 points.
Newcastle still lead the BBL Championship standings with a 12-2 record, but Leicester Riders and Glasgow Rocks applied pressure at the weekend and both have one loss fewer than the table-toppers.
The Rocks made it 10 straight victories in all competitions after beating Cheshire Phoenix 88-67 away from home behind 18 points apiece from Hayden Lescault and Neil Watson, while the Riders battled back to see off Bristol Flyers 79-65, thanks in large to a dominant fourth quarter effort.
London Lions are still very much in the mix as they claimed their eighth league win with a 103-94 triumph over Manchester Giants on Friday night. Rashad Hassan put up 31 points with Zaire Taylor adding 22 points and 12 assists.
Despite entering the weekend with three consecutive wins, it would prove to be a double-losing weekend for the Giants as they also went down 91-104 against Leeds Force.
Robert Sandoval netted a game-high of 26 points as Force bounced back from a 91-77 loss at home to Worcester Wolves two days earlier when Marek Klassen contributed 18 points and seven assists to help orchestrate the downfall of his former side.
Finally, Surrey Scorchers picked up their fourth league win of the campaign after a convincing 103-80 victory over Cheshire as three players netted 20+ points.
